At Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center, our policies help ensure we can provide timely, high-quality medical care for all patients while respecting the time of our clients and medical team.
All visits are by appointment only so that we can provide adequate time for each patient. We recommend arriving a few minutes early so that check-in and paperwork can be completed before your scheduled appointment time.
If you arrive late, we will do our best to accommodate you, but your appointment may need to be rescheduled if it interferes with care for other scheduled patients.
To reserve an appointment, a $50 deposit is required for exams, and a $100 deposit is required for surgical procedures.
Deposits are applied toward the cost of the visit.
Appointments scheduled without a deposit will be marked as unconfirmed and may be removed from the schedule at the end of the business day if the deposit is not received.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice.
Missed appointments or late cancellations may result in the deposit being retained as a missed appointment fee.
Clients who miss multiple appointments may be required to place deposits for future visits.
For surgeries, procedures, and hospitalized patients, we require payment of 50% of the low end of the treatment estimate at check-in.
This payment is applied toward the final invoice. The remaining balance is due at the time of patient discharge.
Payment is required at the time services are provided.
Examination fees, diagnostics, medications, and treatments are separate charges. All charges incurred during your pet’s visit must be paid prior to discharge.
Returned checks are subject to an additional processing fee, and unpaid balances may be subject to collection fees.
We offer payment plan options through Cherry and CareCredit for clients who qualify.
Due to federal and state pharmacy regulations, prescription medications cannot be returned, refunded, or exchanged once they have left the hospital, even if unopened.
Many medications used in exotic animal medicine are extra-label medications, meaning they may be originally labeled for use in other species, such as dogs or cats, but are compounded and prescribed safely for exotic pets.
By seeking treatment at our hospital, clients acknowledge that extra-label medication use may be necessary for exotic animal care.
Exotic animals may behave differently in a medical setting than they do at home and may attempt to bite, scratch, or otherwise defend themselves.
For safety reasons, clients should not handle their pet during medical procedures unless instructed by staff.
For the safety of all patients, clients, and staff, all pets must arrive in secure carriers or appropriate containment.
Birds should be transported in secure travel carriers, not on shoulders or hands. Reptiles and amphibians must be in escape-proof containers.
Small mammals and other exotic pets should be transported in secure carriers or enclosed travel containers appropriate for their species.
Animals that are not properly contained may be denied entry until appropriate containment is provided.
Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center focuses exclusively on exotic pets. For the safety and comfort of our patients, dogs and cats should not be brought to the clinic unless they are registered service animals.
Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center is not a 24-hour facility. Patients are not monitored continuously outside of regular hospital hours.
If overnight monitoring or continuous emergency care is required, we may recommend transfer to a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital.
Pets left at Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center without communication from the owner for an extended period may be considered abandoned. Abandoned animals will be handled in accordance with applicable Arizona state statutes and veterinary board regulations.
We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for clients, patients, and staff.
Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center maintains a zero-tolerance policy for aggressive behavior, threats, violence, or vulgar language, whether in person, by phone, or online.
Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center focuses exclusively on exotic pets. We do not see or treat dogs, cats, wildcats, wolf hybrids, primates, large carnivores, pigs, or large hoofstock.
Goats, sheep, and alpacas are accepted patients.
